Titanium alloy

Titanium alloys are alloy materials formed by adding elements such as aluminum, vanadium, molybdenum, and tin to titanium as the base. Due to their excellent properties such as high strength, low density, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature resistance, they are known as "space metals" and "marine metals" and are widely used in aerospace, medical, chemical, and military industries.

Main classification of titanium alloys:

By phase composition:

1.α-type titanium alloys (such as TA7, Ti-5Al-2.5Sn)Mainly contain α-stabilizing elements (Al, O, N, etc.).They have high-temperature resistance (below 600°C), oxidation resistance, but lower strength and good weldability.Applications: Compressor blades for aircraft engines, rocket fuel tanks.

2.β-type titanium alloys (such as TB2, Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al)Contain β-stabilizing elements (Mo, V, Cr, Fe, etc.).Can be heat-treated for strengthening, high strength, but poorer heat resistance.Applications: Aircraft landing gear, high-strength fasteners.

1.α+β-type titanium alloys (such as TC4/Ti-6Al-4V)Combines both α and β phases, providing optimal overall performance, accounting for over 60% of the titanium alloy market.Applications: Aircraft structural components, artificial joints, ship components.

By application area: structural titanium alloys, heat-resistant titanium alloys, medical titanium alloys, marine titanium alloys.

Titanium alloys are the core materials of high-end manufacturing in the 21st century. With technological advancements, their applications will expand from aerospace and medical to automotive, energy, and other fields. China has become a major global producer of titanium alloys, but high-end alloys (such as aerospace-grade Ti-5553) still rely on imports. Future development needs to break through high-purity melting and precision processing technologies.
